CYJMA BARGAINING 2023

WHAT IS COLLECTIVE BARGAINING?

2023 is the year you and your coworkers improve your working lives. Your current Collective Agreement, which sets out your wages and conditions, expires on 31 August 2023.

Right now, Together members are preparing to renegotiate your Collective Agreement for the next 3 years. This is done through the collective bargaining process.

Bargaining is an opportunity for change.

When you join together with your coworkers, you have the power to make improvements to your pay, classifications, hours of work, leave, safety – and other important aspects of your working life

Members develop a list of improvements for the new collective agreement. When your delegates have endorsed this draft list of improvements, it is put out to all Together members covered by your EM for endorsement.
Your delegates will take your log of claims to meetings with your employer. They present them, and there is discussion of each item in a series of meetings.

This is where things heat up. It could mean wearing a sticker, putting up a poster, attending a rally, or taking protected industrial action.

Once an offer has been made by the department, members decide on the agreement by voting "Yes" or "No". Voting “No” means action continues to influence the department for a better offer.
