Petition: No cuts to the Public Service.
Will you add your voice to your union's call to the Premier to make job security and services the cornerstone of this year's budget?
Over the weekend, the Queensland Government confirmed that its new Queensland Government Consultancy will not be operational this financial year. This puts at risk the $757 million in savings that had been announced as funding for many of their election commitments.
Budgets are how state governments determine their priorities and implement many of their election commitments. In June, the Crisafulli Government will hand down its first budget, and their ability to deliver on these commitments will be harder if the savings from the creation of the Queensland Government Consultancy do not come to fruition, as the Treasurer has indicated.
Last year, Premier Crisafulli campaigned on the basis that he would not cut public sector jobs and would not privatise public sector services. Since the election, the Premier has consistently told the public service and the Queensland community that he is a politician who keeps his promises and remains committed to public sector employment and services.
However, budgets are about making choices between priorities. With a more challenging budgetary environment, we need the Premier to ensure that his election promises of no cuts to public service jobs and no privatisation of public sector services remain the non-negotiable cornerstone of this year’s budget.
You can help protect the quality of public sector services by reinforcing to the Government that these election commitments are a fundamental part of their mandate and must be delivered as part of this year's budget.
Will you add your voice to the call?
The more members who speak up, the more politicians will listen.
With less than two months before the state budget is handed down, the Government faces critical choices about its priorities. Together, we can ensure they stay true to their election commitments by raising a strong, collective voice that cannot be ignored. That means we need as many public sector workers as possible to support the call.
If you care about public sector jobs.
If you care about quality public services.
If you care about your community.
Now is the time to add your voice.
Dear Premier Crisafulli
The Queensland community elected you based on the promises you made during the 2024 election, including your commitment that your government would not cut public sector jobs and would not privatise public sector services.
We call on you to ensure that your budget delivers on these commitments.
