Information for members affected by current weather events in South East Queensland.

As Tropical Cyclone Alfred’s path firms up with a likely landfall somewhere in South East Queensland on Thursday it is now a good idea to get yourself ready for the likely impacts on your community and your workplace.

Please ensure you are following all local safety guidelines and the BOM.

It is also good time to remind yourself of your rights and entitlements during such severe weather events:

  • Special Leave Entitlements: If you're unable to work due to the cyclone and its related conditions like road closures, power outages etc, you may be eligible for special leave. This is applicable for circumstances like being unable to attend your workplace due to flooding, needing to leave early for safety, or staying at home for family or property protection, amongst others.
  • Alternative Work Locations: If it's feasible and within your scope of practice, you may be asked to work at an alternate site.

You can view more information about your leave entitlements at this time on page 9 of the Directive.

The Public Sector Commissioner has stated today:

"Advice based on the current weather system modelling is that it will be business as usual for the Queensland public sector tomorrow (Wednesday, 5 March)."

There will be a further update tomorrow regarding Thursday and Friday.

Your safety is paramount. Please prioritise it above all else. If you are in any doubt about your ability to safely travel to or from work, or if you have concerns about the safety of your workplace, please contact your line manager or your union office ASAP.

Stay informed and stay safe.

The Brisbane Together office will be closed from COB Tuesday 4 March however staff will be working from home to ensure members are supported. Your union is here to support you through these tough times.
